Bronze for the men's 4 X 100 relay team.
The women would have got a medal too had Asher Smith not pulled up with cramp on the final bend.

Women's 4 X 400 team into the final and could medal.

Anyone know what happened to the men's 4 X 400 team, didn't see them in the heats and can't find any news as to why anywhere?

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
Excellent Bronze for Hudson Smith.
More medals to come in the Women's 800m final, and if we get the baton round in 100m men's & womens finals we should get medals.

Superb from Hudson Smith after all he’s been through. The joy on his face was great to see.

Who came 3rd
in the tour stage today?

Then again I'm sure who ever comes 3rd on G.C sfter Sunday will be doing interviews and flag waving so we can see who it is.

Seems like a massive drama Queen to me

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
She loves a bit of drama and attention for sure. Michael Johnson said "what's new" in regard to her & athletes in general having to overcome such things.
Didn't need to dwell on it after a great 3rd place, not much more she could have done with the quantity in that field, did very well to get bronze. She looked delighted though.

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
I get what you are saying El Scorchio.

I thought that too. She said she's had a hard year with the passing of her grandma or something along those lines. All very well but that's life isnt it? It's not as if none of the other athletes don't have to deal with the same life dramas.

I don't know why she's giving excuses. For me that's putting pressure on herself and taking away from what was a decent achievement.

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
Maybe, and perhaps I am being a bit harsh on her. I don't know. And she is under a LOT of pressure from the media as the golden girl of British athletics. I just feel there's always a justification or an excuse in her post race interviews rather than just any disappointment and 'I've got to go away and work even harder to catch her' which I'd love to hear, and you hear from most athletes.

I'd like to hope she's just coming into her prime and can still go somewhat faster and be 'the one'. SAFP is 35 and still doing the business.

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
I echo what 13 said. Dina arrived in Eugene knowing that to win a medal she had to match her best whilst others needed to underperform. A fourth place and a Bronze medal mean that in world terms she exceeded expectations.

El Scorchio 1:15 Fri Jul 22
Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
Agree- and don't get me wrong I know she's up against some of the very best the world has ever seen and bronze is still a great achievement, but I never hear anything other than gushing praise for her from anyone. Whereas while other athletes still get that praise where it's due, there is still some critical assessment, but I feel like it's verboten with her. Even Michael Johnson doesn't really do it, and he usually talks through the good and bad of everyone's race quite candidly.

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
She's in good shape now and could do no more. A bronze in that field is like a win, it was the fastest field in any final ever, she could have just as easily come 4th - 8th, the three Jamaicans are in the top 4 or 5 female sprinters of all time.

El Scorchio 1:03 Fri Jul 22
Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
I don't know what to make of Asher Smith. She's a lovely girl and clearly very, very talented but she always seems to have some sort of excuse or reason for 'only' coming third or fourth and no-one really asks any questions of 'can/could she do anything better?'

Well done Asher Smith, excellent bronze in the 200m.

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
They do have a proper one- i watched Wightman's.

The instant medals is just a silly bizarre decision. It adds nothing at all. I'm sure for instance Ingebritson after losing out on a race he thought was a cakewalk really didn't want some goon shoving a silver medal toward him moments after crossing the line just to emphasise in the heat of the moment how he'd just failed and let his country down. Also takes away from the prestige of a formal medal ceremony.

Get rid of them.

Sarge

They are doing the instant medal thing in every event. It's some sort of gimmicky thing and it's not the real medal they're given. They still have an official medal ceremony. At least that's what was said on the BBC.

200m should be a cracker

18 year old Knighton has the 4th quickest time in history, compare him to Bolt at the same age he’s as slick as a slick thing whereas Bolt was an absolute mess technically, all over the place . Very exciting prospect

Up against the cocky gobshite Noah Lyles, hoping the kid puts him in his place

Swindon
Apparently UK Athletics booked him on a plane the following morning so they had to do the ceremony on the same night.

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
Josh Kerr is a confident lad, said he's not in this sport to come 2nd (like the olympics), which could be seen as cocky but I think this interview proves he's a decent lad.
